FAQ

Who is this service for

Who is this service for?

This service is for individuals, couples and larger groups (6 or less) who would like to go on a guided walk in the Lake District National Park, see some great places, not have to worry about navigation, keeping an eye on the weather, stressing about logistics or even having to make a packed lunch!

You'll receive a set of professionally captured and edited portrait and landscape digital images via a private online gallery shortly after your tour.

For those who opt in to have it, I'll also provide your group with a specially prepared gourmet lunch with restaurant-style food cooked by the Fell Foodie Harrison Ward.

This is a great value day out for all the family and friends whether for a special occasion, hen do or corporate event.

If you would like to know more, press on the orange button above and let's plan your adventure.

I'm on my own, can I join others you know to form a group?

Unfortunately not at this time. Please subscribe and if/when that becomes an option I can offer you'll be among the first to know.

Do you cater for bigger groups and corporate bookings?

This service is designed for small family groups of less than 6 people.

If you're a business looking for something different or you've got a large family, please click on the 'Book a FREE Experience Consultation' button and arrange a time to talk through what you'd like. By knowing the details of your trip I will be able to make suggestions for how I could make an Experience work for your group.

Can we bring our dog?

I am a dog owner too and so appreciate you'd want to bring yours along.

I'm happy to have dogs along as long as they're kept under control, are not permitted to chase sheep or be a nuisance to other people in the vicinity of our group. I also draw the line at there being more dogs than people in our group.

Being outdoors is a privilege and if doing simple things can keep it enjoyable for everyone then I'm all for it. A good place to start is by knowing and adhering to the Countryside Code as well as reading and following the guidance provided by the Blue Cross who have helpfully listed important legal requirements dog owners must adhere to.

FAQ

On the day

Will we have time to explore on our own?

Absolutely!

I won't be a shadow to your experience. I'll show you to the best places and give you plenty of time to explore on your own (plus a little interaction for the odd photo or two).

This is your time together. Once you're done exploring one area, let me know and we can move onto the next.

Are there cafe and toilet stops along the way?

There are no facilities of any kind along the routes taken. You are advised to bring what you need for the journey and spend a penny before leaving home. Wild wee's can be achieved with relative ease...that is all.

Where does the experience start?

Each experience has a dedicated start/finish point.

Upon receiving your deposit payment, you will be sent an information pack for the route you have selected. Contained within, you'll find a map and itinerary for your experience plus additional information about parking and the use of public transport.

If you do not have access to a private vehicle, public transport is your next best option. Each route is within walking distance of a local bus route from Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Grasmere and beyond.

If you have booked your experience through your hotel, they will be able to offer you assistance getting to the meeting point either by booking you transport or helping you to find the required public transport links.

If you would like to hire a private car to cater for your travel needs, please mention this during your Experience Consultation and I can arrange for a car to collect and drop you off at the required timings. There is an additional fee applicable for this service.

If all else fails, do call or email me and I will do whatever is needed to help you.

FAQ

Booking

How do you book an Experience?

Booking your experience is easy!

Click here to schedule your FREE Experience Consultation telephone call with me.

This is a bespoke trip for your group and so during this call you can build your adventure by:

  • selecting your route,
  • deciding if you want to include food and
  • adding any additional product items (saving 5% on the standard price)
  • asking any questions you need to determine if this is a service you wish to commit to.

If you decide to go ahead, I will email you an invoice and payment details. A deposit payment of £200 is required to secure your date unless booking within 7 days of your Experience, where the full balance will be required.

Only when I have received your deposit payment will allocate your date to your group and decline requests from other groups requesting the same date.

The remaining balance will then be required 7 days before your experience.

What dates are available?

Dates are available throughout spring - early autumn 7 days a week.

To find a date which dates I have available and which ones work for your visit, schedule your FREE Experience Consultation.

Throughout this call I'll be able to confirm what I have available, help you determine which route is suitable for your group's aspirations and abilities, we can talk about food and the logistics of making your Experience simple. You'll be able to ask any additional questions you'd like and you won't be committed to an Experience until your deposit payment of £200 has been paid.

Where will this be?

All experiences will be based in the Lake District National Park.

Once your booking has been secured with a deposit, I will send you all the information you need to prepare for your experience. This will include a location to meet, a timeline of the day's activities, some suggested parking and travel options as well as tips for what to wear, pack and how to prepare for the big day.

What happens if the weather is bad? (plus other cancellation/postponement questions)

If bad weather is expected on your experience date the first thing I will do is to call and discuss how it may impact on our time together.

If heavy persistent rain is forecast for more than 50% of our time together I will offer you a choice from the options below.

  1. An alternate route with more favourable weather forecasting (if possible)
  2. A guided walking tour without photos and lunch - for the price you'll have paid for your deposit.
  3. A different date (if possible) at no extra cost. If you cannot make a subsequent date I will provide you with a full refund.

If rain is forecast but it's unlikely to prevent us from capturing a great set of images the tour will continue and we'll just power through.

If you decide you wish to cancel, for any reason, with less than 7 days of your experience you will forfeit your deposit but I will refund the remaining balance.

If you wish to postpone and I can offer you an alternative date for the same service that you've already committed to, there is no charge if the change is requested with more than 7 days notice.

If you would like to postpone your experience with less than 7 days notice you will forfeit your deposit unless an alternative date is available and the same service is requested within 5 days of the original date.

FAQ

Experience Routes

How far are the available routes?

Each route description above states the route length and expected duration.

There are a few hills and some steps along the way but with between 3 - 500m of ascent in total, depending on the route selected.

If you are able to walk the distance on the flat in good time then you won't have an issue with what you'll need to do on the day.

Please note, due to the wild nature of the areas we'll visit on these experiences, unfortunately this service is unsuitable for those with lower body disabilities or restrictions. If you have concerns for yourself or anyone in your group, don't hesitate to contact me for further information. Please click on the Let's Chat button in the top corner of your screen to send me a message.

Alternatively, perhaps one of my Adventure Mini Shoots is more appropriate.

How long will it take to walk the route?

Each route description above states the route length and expected duration.

This will include all time spent taking photographs, sightseeing along the way and stops for food and snacks.

Upon request I can also cater for open water swimming stops too, however, this activity is done at your own risk.

How many routes are available to select from?

There are two routes available for my Lake District Portrait Experiences in 2023.

Please check back for details or subscribe to my newsletter using the form at the bottom of this page for more details and notifications of new routes as they become available.

FAQ

Food

I'd like to book food, how does that work?

To make your booking, click on this link to schedule your FREE Experience Consultation.

As part of the consultation you'll be able to state you wish to have your lunch cooked for you by one of our amazing chefs. Each chef has their own unique style and will prepare one of four available menus for your group. You can find out more about our chefs and the menu options they offer by visiting my Experience Food page.

Once I know what date you'd like to have your Experience and that you'd like food I'll check with all my chefs to see who is available. If your first choice chef is available then we'll book them up for you. If they're not available then you may have the option for one of my other chefs to cook for you instead.

Unfortunately, our chefs are working professionals and are not always available which could mean I'm unable to offer you this service for the date you have selected. If other dates are available where chefs are too then you're more than welcome to change the date of your booking.

In the event I cannot provide a chef your experience can still happen but I'd not be able to supply food for you in this instance.
