Here’s an idea. A Lake District photographed walking tours are a totally unique outdoor adventure. One you won't find anywhere else in the UK.

You might be thinking, a walk in the Lake District is nothing new and you'd be right, but you get much more than a run-of-the-mill walking tour.

And the best thing? You’ll return home with not just your memories from the walk, but with your adventures in print. On a gloomy day in the depths of January, you’ll always have something to make you smile!

What's more, you'll also have the chance to have lunch with my friend and colleague, Harrison Ward (aka Fell Foodie), who can be your personal chef, providing you with a restaurant-style meal cooked before your eyes in an idyllic outdoor setting.

Find the hidden gems, the awe-inspiring panoramas and the magical caves. Take a pause for lunch, eat like Kings - all the while knowing that the best parts of your day are being captured, and you’ll have perfect pictures to preserve those memories. Genius.

What will this look like?

Here’s a fab little video from the day with one of my couples recently. They couldn't afford a photographer to take photos at their wedding so they came for a special day out on their first anniversary.

After their adventure, they were able to go through the photos and pick their absolute favourites to turn into professionally framed prints for their home and create a stunning album to keep on their coffee table ready share with visiting friends and family.

Take a peek at their day!

Who's the Fell Foodie?

A man and woman are in a field. One has cooked. They are both eating and smiling. The man's name is Harrison Ward, aka The Fell Foodie. The woman's name is Mary Berry.
Here's Harrison cooking for Mary Berry on the BBC

The Fell Foodie, also known as Harrison Ward (yes, named after Harrison Ford) is a Cumbrian chap with a big love for cooking outdoors. But he's not always done this and has had quite an unsettled earlier life.

However, after realising his world was turning upside down, he became an advocate for the benefits of being outside and this helped him overcome dependence on alcohol and cigarettes. Being outdoors also prevented a total mental breakdown and gave him the comfort and direction he needed to overcome his crisis.

Heading for the fells gave Harrison space to rehabilitate and find his love for cooking which ultimately developed into him being an outdoor chef.

Harrison has now recovered and has become synonymous with being the outdoor chef - The Fell Foodie. He's appeared on the BBC cooking for Dame Mary Berry, Channel 5, at local and national shows and exhibitions as a guest speaker and provides corporate welfare and cooking workshops.

What You Get

What about prints?

What do you get from your experience?

As much as I love prints and think all my clients should have them (because they're great!), not everyone agrees with me and not everyone can carry a 20" x 16" frame on an aeroplane to get it home.

This is why I've opted to include the digital images within the service fee and give you the opportunity to add printed products as a bolt-on, if you want them.

But, if you are keen on a set of printed products, I have a few options available, from basic to more luxurious option to suit a spread of budgets.

Grasmere Print Package - £247

(£290 if bought separately)

  • A 10 page 7" x 5" basic album with up to 20 of your prints
  • A 14" x 11" frame including a 10" x 7" print with a single mount

Coniston Print Package - £547

(£650 if bought separately)

  • A 10 page 8" x 8" luxury album with up to 20 of your prints
  • A 20" x 16" frame including a 16" x 12" print and a single mount

Windermere Print Package - £997

(£1217 if bought separately)

  • A 10" x 10" luxury album with up to 20 of your favourite prints
  • A set of 8x  10" x 8" matted prints

Not quite what you're after? I have other options available here.

Depending on how long you're in the Lake District after your experience, your printed products can be collected from my home studio or I can post them to an address of your choosing for free (UK addresses only). You just need to let me know.

Tour Locations

Route 1

Little Langdale

6Km - 5 Hours

Difficulty: Easy - One short scrambling section but this can be avoided if necessary.

Discover the wonders of this quaint Lake District valley with a tour of natural beauty spots and industrial ruins.

This is a steady walk with fantastic diversity that'll keep all groups entertained throughout the entire day and is excellent for groups with younger walkers.

There are only 300 metres of ascent throughout the entire tour making this a fine option for those looking for some superb views without having to climb a lot to get there. P.s Don't forget a torch 😉

Route 2

12Km - 8 Hours

Difficulty: Moderate - Some longer and steeper uphill sections but with fantastic rewards

On a clear day the views on this walk are spectacular! We'll visit four different 'lakes' along the way as we tour the best parts of Loughrigg, near to Ambleside. See its caves, conquer its summit and marvel at the view points in the valley while having a fantastic day out with lots to do and see.

As an added bonus, if you fancy a swim then bring your swimmers and take a refreshing dip in one of three lakes along the route to top off a grand day out that ticks all the boxes.

Booking Information

What dates are available?

An icon of a tick mark with a circle around it.

Such is the life of an outdoor A-List superstar that it may not always be possible for Harrison to cook for us. It's an unfortunate consequence of him being so in-demand, especially in the summer months when he spends a lot of his time speaking and cooking at outdoor events around the country. This is why all requests for Harrison to cook on your experience come with an availability condition.

When you decide to book an experience and if you'd like to book Harrison too, please select a date from the list below which shows the symbol shown (Harrison knows he cannot commit to dates without the symbol). Your experience booking will then be confirmed and your 'Harrison booking' provisionally confirmed.

10 days before your experience is due to start, I'll contact you to confirm if Harrison is available. If he is then your outstanding balance will be updated and due in full, if not, you can choose another date (if available), opt for self-catered or request a refund of your deposit.

While I appreciate this is not ideal, it's the best way of ensuring that everyone has the chance to receive the experience they'd really like without too much risk of disappointment.

Thanks for your understanding.

Other information

Got a question? Sure you have!

Who is this service for?

This service is for individuals, couples and larger groups (6 or less) who would like to go on a guided walk in the Lake District National Park, see some great places, not have to worry about navigation, keeping an eye on the weather, stressing about logistics or even having to make a packed lunch!

You'll receive a set of professionally captured and edited portrait and landscape digital images via a private online gallery shortly after your tour.

For those who opt in to have it, I'll also provide your group with a specially prepared gourmet lunch with restaurant-style food cooked by the Fell Foodie Harrison Ward.

This is a great value day out for all the family and friends whether for a special occasion, hen do or corporate event.

I'm on my own, can I join others you know to form a group?

Unfortunately not at this time. Please subscribe and if/when that becomes an option I can offer you'll be among the first to know.

I'd love to bring my whole family, do you do shoots for bigger groups?

Absolutely. I am able to provide this service to small family groups of less than 6 people.

If you're a business looking for something different or you've got a large family, please click on the 'Let's Chat' button and send me a message.

Will we have time to explore on our own?

I won't be a shadow to your experience. I'll show you to the best places and give you plenty of time to explore on your own (plus a little interaction for the odd photo or two).

This is your time together. Once you're done exploring one area, let me know and we can move onto the next.

What will it cost?

An experience costs £700 and includes a tour for up to 6 people and all professionally captured digital images from the day.

Food can be added to your experience for an additional £25 per person.

A child under 5 eats for free when accompanied by a full paying adult. Please let me know at the time of booking if this scenario fits your requirements.

I also have a selection of frames albums and prints which you can choose to add to your experience. If you commit to any of my printed products at the time of booking you'll receive a 5% discount on the listed prices. For more information, check out my product catalogue.

A non refundable deposit is required to secure your group to a date. This will be taken at the time of booking and can be paid for by online card payment or bank transfer. Payment plans are available to help spread the cost.

Can we bring our dog?

I am a dog owner too and so appreciate you'd want to bring yours along.

I'm happy to have dogs along as long as they're kept under control, are not permitted to chase sheep or be a nuisance to other people in the vicinity of our group. I also draw the line at there being more dogs than people in our group.

Being outdoors is a privilege and if doing simple things can keep it enjoyable for everyone then I'm all for it. A good place to start is by knowing and adhering to the Countryside Code as well as reading and following the guidance provided by the Blue Cross who have helpfully listed important legal requirements dog owners must adhere to.

Is lunch included?

The standard experience does not include lunch, however, for only £25 per person, you are able to have Harrison cook for you!

Save your legs. Save your lunch maker's sanity and get someone else to do the cooking for you for a change!

Still not sure if this is the right option? Check out one of my Adventure Mini Shoots.

What dates are available?

Dates are available throughout spring - early autumn. To find a date that works for you, start the booking process and check them out here. You don't need to complete the booking form to find out.

Where will this be?

All experiences will be based in the Lake District National Park.

Once your booking has been secured with a deposit, I will send you all the information you need to prepare for your experience. This will include a location to meet, a timeline of the day's activities, some suggested parking and travel options as well as tips for what to wear, pack and how to prepare for the big day.

Do you supply kit and equipment for the walk?

I am unable to supply any kit or equipment for the walk. I can help advise what to bring and where you might get it, but do not have a store of equipment to provide you.

If you would like suggestions on where to go for appropriate outdoor kit that'll be suitable for your tour, drop me a message and I will be happy to offer some advice.

How far are the available routes?

Each route description above states the route length and expected duration.

There are a few hills and some steps along the way but with between 3 - 500m of ascent in total, depending on the route selected.

If you are able to walk the distance on the flat in good time then you won't have an issue with what you'll need to do on the day.

Please note, due to the wild nature of the areas we'll visit on these experiences, unfortunately this service is unsuitable for those with lower body disabilities or restrictions. If you have concerns for yourself or anyone in your group, don't hesitate to contact me for further information. Please click on the Let's Chat button in the top corner of your screen to send me a message.

Alternatively, perhaps one of my Adventure Mini Shoots is more appropriate.

How long will it take to walk the route?

Each route description above states the route length and expected duration.

This will include all time spent taking photographs, sightseeing along the way and stops for food and snacks.

Upon request I can also cater for open water swimming stops too, however, this activity is done at your own risk.

How many routes are available to select from?

There are two routes available for my Lake District Portrait Experiences in 2023.

Please check back for details or subscribe to my newsletter using the form at the bottom of this page for more details and notifications of new routes as they become available.

Are there cafe and toilet stops along the way?

There are no facilities of any kind along the routes taken. You are advised to bring what you need for the journey and spend a penny before leaving home. Wild wee's can be achieved with relative ease...that is all.

Is... included?

Each experience includes the digital images taken on the day.

Prints and framed items are not included as standard so customers who do not have the capacity to carry these items on an aeroplane do not have to worry.

However, if you'd like to purchase any printed items, please see my package options above or my printed products catalogue for more details. A 5% discount is offered for those committing to any printed product when making your experience booking.

What happens if the weather is bad? (plus other cancellation/postponement questions)

If bad weather is expected on your experience date the first thing I will do is to call and discuss how it may impact on our time together.

If heavy persistent rain is forecast for more than 50% of our time together I will offer you a choice from the options below.

  1. An alternate route with more favourable weather forecasting (if possible)
  2. A guided walking tour without photos and lunch - for the price you'll have paid for your deposit.
  3. A different date (if possible) at no extra cost. If you cannot make a subsequent date I will provide you with a full refund.

If rain is forecast but it's unlikely to prevent us from capturing a great set of images the tour will continue and we'll just power through.

If you decide you wish to cancel, for any reason, with more than 10 days of your experience you will forfeit your deposit but I will refund the remaining balance.

If you wish to postpone and I can offer you an alternative date for the same service that you've already committed to, there is no charge if the change is requested with more than 10 days notice.

If you would like to postpone your experience with less than 10 days notice you will forfeit your deposit unless an alternative date is available and the same service is requested within 5 days of the original date.

I'd like to book food with Harrison, how does that work?

To make your booking, complete the booking form via the orange buttons above. I will receive your request and confirm mine and Harrisons availability. I will contact you to confirm the outcome, giving you some options if Harrison knows he will not be available for you.

If the date is available, I will send you a payment request and a contract to sign. Once I have received both of these from you your booking will be confirmed with me.

In any scenario, the remaining balance payment will be required 10 days before your Experience is due to start.

If you have requested lunch with Harrison, I will confirm his availability 10 days before your Experience. If he is available, I will inform you and the outstanding balance on your invoice will be amended to account for having food. Once your final balance has been received Harrison will then be booked in to provide lunch for you.

If Harrison becomes unavailable, I will offer you three options:

  1. To postpone the Experience to another date (if available)
  2. To have your Experience without lunch provided by Harrison
  3. To have a full refund

If you select options 1 or 2 then the outstanding balance will be required and your Experience will go ahead as planned.

If you select option 3, I will refund your deposit and will hope to see you in the future.
